I actually liked the book. True the ending was not that happy but come on some of you are over reacting. John Grisham is still a fantastic author. You'll get over it. I can't wait for Jan. 27th. I bet you guys can't either.

THOUGH I HAVEN'T READ 'THE APPEAL' BUT I THINK NON-FICTION AND RELATIONSHIP KIND OF STORIES BAIL HIM OFF. ITS SAD TO SAY BUT I FIND " THE CHAMBER" AND " THE INNOCENT MAN" WERE BORING ENOUGH . THESE AREAS ARE JUST NOT HIS KIND OF LOLLIPOP.

I thought my dislike was just me being unsophisticated in understanding great storytelling so I'm glad so many have had the same visceral negative reaction to the ending. I also had the same desire for a sequel where justice prevails....

Couldn't agree more. I'm not a very fast reader, but Grisham's novels have always been worth the effort - until now. I already know that juries and judges can be bought. I read JG books to root for the underdog, to know that in the end there will be some sort of justice, some small victory, if only a moral one. Why even tell the story about Ron Fisk's kid getting FUBAR'd by a baseball if it wasn't going to change things. I literally threw the book across the room when I finally finished. Hated it. I was about to pick up "The Associate" but second thoughts abound. I'll wait for some reviews from you someone who speed-reads.

I'm so p*ssed, I've actually joined a discussion group to get it off my chest! I love Grisham's work, all of it, and even think that The Appeal is exceptional in every particular. The ending, however, was a real punch in the gut. Yes, that does sound melodramatic, I'm sure, but it's what it felt like. I read Grisham for reasons, a very important one being satisfaction at the end of his books. I don't need a dose of reality, that's not why I read FICTION, I want to believe that somewhere there is justice for all. Come on, John, get UN-real!

I just finished this book and was very disappointed. I don't read books to be depressed by a terrible ending and this one was just about as bad as it gets. The result is that I will seriously think before purchasing another of his books.

After reading the Associate I am very reluctant to start another Grisham book. I'm not sure I could handle another bad ending. It sounds like in the end the bad guy gets away and I have no problem with that but in the Associate there was just no real conclusion. Now that is what I have a big problem with.

I just love picking up a John Grisham book. But The Appeal, well I just kept thinking, I've read this before. As for The Associate, I did manage to get through it but, it was just so boring, it took me a week to read it. Usually I read his books in a couple of days. I hate being negative, because I have just loved all of his work. I hope he is just in a rut. I just have a hard time finding something good to read these days.

OK I have read every Grisham book there all great, but the ending in the Appeal was like I was left hanging by a branch.
I keep looking to see if there were pages missing from my book it can't end like that I mean where is spin?
Trudeau's greddy evil empire was like Bernie Madoff going free we needed some justice oh well maybe there will be a squeal.

I liked how the good guys don't always win. It was his most realistic novel. It was my sixth favorite.

I have read Everything Grisham and this book has the most disappointing ending. It was as if he got tired of writing and just ended it. Is it possible he has notes on an alternative ending? How about when it goes paperback having an alternative. Come on John that was lame. I was waiting for that last twist at the end and it never came. I wait all year for your work to come out and this was just disappointing.

I absolutely love John Grisham. He is my favorite author by far and has been since we were required in school to read A Time to Kill! As for this book, It was a little TOO much politics to me, but it reflected how the world of politics really works. As for the ending, of course we always want the good guys to win, but it's always nice to read a book that doesn't turn out the way that you think it will. I mean, it's part of the suspense of it. Why read a book that you can predict everything that will happen??? Don't take it so seriously, it's not real life, which John goes to great lengths at the end of his novel to express to people. (Those people who took it personally and were appalled by the ending). If you feel that strongly about it not ending the way you wanted it to, go back to reading fairytales. That extra little twist you were all waiting on, was exactly just that; it ended with the bad guys winning out, which really does happen sometimes.
